{"id":544,"date":"2021-05-25T11:38:46","date_gmt":"2021-05-25T11:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.markgeveritt.uk\/wp\/?p=544"},"modified":"2021-05-25T11:38:53","modified_gmt":"2021-05-25T11:38:53","slug":"are-there-any-premier-league-clubs-still-wholly-british-owned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markgeveritt.uk\/wp\/2021\/05\/25\/are-there-any-premier-league-clubs-still-wholly-british-owned\/","title":{"rendered":"Are there any Premier League Clubs still wholly British owned?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;ve imported some older blog posts of mine from other blogs into this one and going through them I came across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markgeveritt.uk\/wp\/2010\/10\/26\/rovers-going-for-an-indian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this post from 2010 <\/a>on the sale of Blackburn Rovers to the Indian chicken farmers, the Venkey&#8217;s Group. (Please ignore the slightly racist headline on the post &#8211; I was younger and a bit stupid back then)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the post, I note the Rovers were going to join eight other Premier League Clubs wholly-owned abroad and three more partly owned off-shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also mention my belief that Steve Morgan was &#8216;in it for the long term&#8217; with his ownership of Wolves. Oh dear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time, Blackpool, Sunderland, Bolton, Wigan &amp; Blues were still in the Premier League\u2014so that&#8217;s changed. But also, there were eight clubs still wholly owned by British people\/companies. But what about now? How many of the twenty Premier League clubs are wholly British owned in 2021? The answer, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_owners_of_English_football_clubs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to Wikipedia<\/a>, is three\u2014Brighton, Newcastle &amp; Spurs.
